With the rail out at +7m for the entire circuit, the track will play tighter. This can sometimes favour on-pace runners as it makes it more difficult for backmarkers to sweep around the field on the home turn. Runners drawn low who can hold their position, like #2 Out Of Luck, gain a significant advantage by being able to rail-hug and save ground. Conversely, it exacerbates the difficulty for those drawn wide, as they have further to travel to get across or risk being posted wide without cover for the journey.

The track is a Soft 6, which will make this a genuine test of stamina over 1400m, particularly with a strong tempo predicted. The conditions will blunt the speed of natural leaders in the final furlong and bring strong, proven wet-track finishers into play. Horses that have to burn fuel early to cross from wide gates will be extremely vulnerable late. There is a risk the inside section could become worn, potentially favouring horses who can find slightly wider, fresher ground in the straight. Fitness and the ability to handle soft going will be paramount.

The 1400m start at Rockhampton provides a run of approximately 400m into the first turn. This is long enough for horses with genuine speed drawn wide to cross, but it requires significant energy expenditure, especially if the pace is contested. The long home straight at Rockhampton is a key feature; it gives runners from off the pace an opportunity to make up ground, a factor that will be amplified if the leaders go too hard early on the testing ground.

As a Class 1 Handicap, the field consists of horses still learning their trade, which can lead to less reliable speed maps compared to higher-grade races. Some runners may not hold a true line under pressure. The handicap nature of the race, combined with the testing track, brings the lighter-weighted horses into calculations as every kilogram will count in the final stages.
